Review / Ipsy: May 2013

Thursday, May 30

Yesterday just before work I got my May Ipsy Glam Bag! This is my very first Ipsy bag, and I wasn't sure for a while if I WOULD get the May bag, since I subscribed long after they were initially shipped...and then I never got a tracking number and had to email Ipsy and etc. etc. but I finally got it! (And for the record, the products listed in "My Glam Room" on the Ipsy website were correct for me - although I've heard many say they were not for them.)

For anyone who does not know, Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription "box" (bag") for $10 a month with free shipping and handling. There are 4 or 5 full- or deluxe sample-size products in each bag, well worth the ten bucks! If you'd like to use my referral link to sign up, please click  here.

Each month comes wrapped in this epic hot pink bag! Once opened, I found the adorable blue-white-and-orange chevron bag, a card for the theme and with this month's coupon codes, and a card with a coupon for $110 off of Nume, specifically hair styling tools and hair extensions. (This coupon does not expire until Nov. 30th. I did a quick browse of their website and will not be buying anything...so whoever wants my code can have it! I'll email it to the first person to comment below saying they want it and who includes their email.)
DSC_2496DSC_2498For this bag there were quite a few either/or products, and I have to say I'm quite pleased with everything! I did not get the only item that I knew I really would not like, the St. Tropez tanning lotion. I also heard rumours that everyone who signed up after the actual May bag was sent out - people like me - all got the same bag. Based on Facebook posts that seems to be true, but I think it's a great bag! For a full list of all the possible items, check out this post on Glamorable.

DSC_2502editZoya Nail Polish in "Gie Gie" (or "Gei Gei"): ($8.00) I was hoping for the blue or purple shade, but this pink is perfectly spring, and I realized it will go great on my nails as they're starting to grow out - not too bright a color and won't draw undue attention to my bitten nails until I'm ready for it! In lieu of my nails, I did a little design on my toes to try it out. I disliked how it applied; I found it very thick and hard to apply evenly. However, putting on nail polish is something I have very little experience with, so it could just be me!

Mirabella Colour Sheers Lipstick in "Pixie": ($22.00) You literally cannot disappoint me with a lip product, although I have to admit I was happy to see the lipstick in my bag and not the lip gloss. This is not nearly as bright as it looks in the tube; when they say "sheer", they mean it! This is actually good because it makes it more versatile. It has no flavor or scent either, and it lasts fairly well.

Yaby Concealer Refill in "Buff": ($4.85) I was a little worried about this color but I think it matches my skin quite well! A little goes a long way with this, although I think I'm going to have my make my own mini-palette to keep it in! This product seems to come in an incredible range of colors, and some of the other Ipsy girls have suggestions for what to do with concealer that doesn't quite match, so I'm all set even if it doesn't work on my face, which is usually lighter than my arm. :)

Pacifica Roll-On Perfume in "Island Vanilla": ($12.00) While I'm not opposed to getting perfumes on the relative cheap - I now have this and the sample from my Petit Vour May box - and it is quite nice, it smells a little too...cupcake-y for me. I prefer more natural scents - mint, flowers, woods, the like. It smells much less natural than its description, which reads: "Tahitian vanilla, loved for its fruity and slightly floral aroma, is anchored with rich Bourbon vanilla notes." However, this will be great to keep on hand for those times when I need a little scent but don't want to use up a perfume I really love. And I like that it's vegan and free of a whole host of bad things you don't want in your makeup, and some of their profits from this scent goes to a nonprofit marine conservation group :)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel: ($22.00 for 0.28 oz; $6.68 for 0.085 oz. sample) I don't really have any issues with unruly eyebrows, but the lovely blogger from Glamorable, Anastasia, mentioned it can be used as a mascara base. I tried it as each today but I'm not sure what the difference is.

Of the five items in my bag, four are full size and one is a deluxe sample - not bad at all! I'll use most of it I think (still deciding on the brow gel) which definitely makes me happy I spent the ten dollars on this :D Here's to increasing my makeup stash!

Box Value: $53.74

Box Cost: $10

Side note: Here's the "pedicure" I did with the Zoya and the polish from my Petit Vour box!

Who else got the May bag? What products? What did you like or not like? Also...if anyone has tips for formatting two photos next to each other on Wordpress, please help!

  1. Anastasia has a lot of really good Brow stuff! I've been using brow gel since I got a sample in my October (I believe it was) Ipsy bag. I have thick eyebrows so I like since they're a tad messy. Also I have a few Pacifica lotions/perfumes and I really like them! They're often very sweet and yummy.

  2. Good to know if I ever get unruly eyebrows! In the meantime I think this will be used as mascara base. And I thought this looked familiar!

I do like this perfume, it's just not my favorite. But I'm don't wear perfumes all that much in general - maybe this will get me in the habit!
